Autumn on the Chesapeake

Well, after reading Capt. Jim Brincefields fishing reports every day for the past month or two we decided to see first hand just how he can constantly catch more fish than most other charter captains on the bay. I think one reason he is so successful is that he has been fishing in the bay for over 30 years and he knows the water and how to find fish.

When we started the day today chumming at "The Gooses" he entered the area with 3 boats already set up and within 10 minutes we had caught more Rockfish than the other boats combined. Jim, being the nice guy that he is invited other boats to tie up next to us so they could get their chance to catch some fish. After we caught our limit we moved on to target other species of fish. Both Capt. Jim and The Maryland Angler's Network agree that their is no reason to keep catching Rockfish after you have your limit, the striper fishery is too fragile and there is no need to chance giving it undue stress.

We decided to go after Trout (Weakfish)so Capt. Jim took us along the eastern bay looking for schools of fish. He spotted several schools of trout on the bottom but we were unable to get then to bite. Capt. Jim and 1st mate today Bob told us to be patient and said once they start biting it will be worth the wait.

An hour or two later we were delighted to find a group of boats who had corralled aa large school of trout. Capt. Jim read his electronics and told us exactly when to start jigging, and boy was he right! We were treated to some non-stop action of Trout and a few bluefish for almost 2 hours. We had a great day thanks to Capt. Jim and mate Bob. All total we had caught our limit of Rockfish,33 Troutthat were keepers (3 over 21")and about 2 dozen Bluefish. This was by far the best day I have ever had on the bay fishing for Trout. If you looking for some fun this fall give Capt. Jim a call 410-867-4944.
